A celebration of life service will follow in the chapel of Carolina Memorial Funeral Home at 2:00 pm. Ruth will be laid to rest thereafter at Carolina Memorial Gardens.
Ruth Eveline Weinberg Sentell, age 95, of North Charleston, SC was committed into God’s care on Friday, September 20, 2024.
Ruth was born to Gustav Arthur Gunther Weinberg and Barbara Trummer Weinberg on February 14, 1929, in Erlangen, Germany, where she grew up with her beloved brother Manfred Weinberg.
As World War II drew to a close, she met a United States GI named Bobby Gene Sentell, who became the love of her life as well as her husband. She moved from Germany to Charleston, SC in 1953 where she and Bobby made a great life for themselves and their four children. Ruth was very proud when she became a naturalized citizen of the United States of America in 1956.
Ruth was an excellent homemaker who took great pride in her immaculate home. She was renowned in her family for her baking and home cooked meals, a passion she passed on to her children. She was also a talented gardener, who especially loved tending to her roses. Ruth loved to shop, and she could “shop until you drop”. Ruth and her late husband, Bobby, enjoyed traveling to visit their children and taking cruises in their later years. She was adventurous about trying new foods and restaurants and seeing new places. However, her foremost treasure in life was time spent with her family, her children, and her grandchildren. Her grit and fierce independence were memorable traits that will not soon be forgotten by those who knew and loved her; strong traits that have been passed on to her children and their family’s future generations.
Ruth was predeceased by her beloved husband, Bobby Gene Sentell; as well as her first born son, Gene Manfred Sentell; and son-in-law, Daniel Coffman.
Ruth is survived by her daughter, Karen Sentell; her son, Ronald Sentell (Linda); and daughter Michelle Helms (Jake); daughter-in-law, Kathy Sentell; three grandsons: Christopher Sentell, Aaron Sentell, and Erik Sentell (Chenny); one granddaughter, Robin Sentell; and great-granddaughter, Kaila Barrett.
