Robert "Floyd" Hennessee quietly departed this life on Tuesday, October 17, 2023. Born June 10, 1925 in Bostic/Sunshine, Rutherford County, NC. He was the son of the late Russell Kimsey Hennessee and Ella Mae Jackson Hennessee. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Leatrice Toney Hennessee, and their son, Bruce Wayne Hennessee, and 12 siblings.
Floyd's life and memories will forever be cherished in the lives of his daughter, Janice K. Amell and son-in-law Steve Amell of Summerville, SC; his grandchildren Heather Amell of Moncks Corner, SC; Robbie Hennessee (Ashley) of Moncks Corner, SC; and Kelly LaPlante (Darryl) of Summerville, SC; four great grandchildren Madison Brunt, Thomas Hennessee, Cooper LaPlante, and Elizabeth Hennessee; and daughter-in-law Kay Fortson.
Floyd served in WWII in the U.S. Army,142nd Regiment, 36th Infantry Division and is a Purple Heart recipient. He made the Southern France invasion, went through the French Vosges Mountains, through Germany, and then to Austria before the war was over. He retired from Charleston Naval Shipyard where he worked from Feb 1958 - Jan 1988. He was a dedicated volunteer at Habitat for Humanity Restore in Goose Creek, SC for over 11 years. He resided in Hanahan, SC from 1958 to 2022. He was a member of Midland Park Methodist Church.
He was one of the kindest and most humble people that we have ever known. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, October, 22, 2023 at 2:00 at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home in North Charleston, SC. Visitation will be from 12:30-2:00 same day as service. Internment at Carolina Memorial Gardens to follow.
