John Thomas Womersley Jr, 72, of North Charleston, SC, a retired Electrical Maintenance Supervisor for the State of South Carolina on the USS Yorktown, passed away peacefully this past Monday at MUSC in Charleston.
Mr. Womersley was born on July 31, 1951, in Washington, DC, a son of John Thomas Womersley, Sr., and Kathleen Boyer Womersley. He was of the Catholic faith and family was his top priority in life. The time spent with family was a priceless commodity to him. Mr. Womersley also enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, and his grandchildren. Mr. Womersley was formerly an experienced marine electrician at the Charleston Naval Shipyard and Petty Officer 2nd Class in the United States Navy. Mr. Womersley was preceded in death by his parents, John and Kathleen.
Surviving are his wife, Charito Abelon Womersley; his son Sean Womersley and his wife, Julia, of Odenton, MD; his daughter Teresa Womersley of North Charleston; two brothers: Michael Womersley and his wife Laura of Grand Rapids, MI and Patrick Womersley and his wife Ellen of Maryville, TN; two grandchildren: granddaughter Chloe Renee Deveaux and grandson Matthew Wayne Deveaux III.
Mr. Womersley's funeral service will be at 1:00 PM on Sunday, January 21, 2024, in the Chapel of Carolina Memorial Funeral Home, North Charleston. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:00 AM until the hour of service on Sunday. The burial will follow at the Carolina Memorial Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held following the burial in the Carolina Memorial reception area. Flowers will be accepted, but the family is respectfully requesting memorial donations be made to The American Cancer Society (https://www.cancer.org/).
