Jacqueline Louise James, age 83, passed away peacefully March 21, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. Jackie was born on March 17, 1939 in Columbia, South Carolina to Junius “JC” and Louise Lee. While attending Camden High School, she was honored as a beauty queen. During this time, she also met and fell in love with Joseph Johnson James. They were married on June 8, 1957.
Jackie was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She especially treasured her role as “Gram” to her thirteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She loved crafts and sewing, with Raggedy Anne and Andy being among her favorite characters to sew. Her love of books was also well known among her friends and family. Her family would often find her reading during quiet moments at home. She was also an avid pianist throughout her life.
When Jackie wasn’t dedicating her life to her family, she worked for two local psychiatrists and served as a Sunday school teacher for decades, as a member of Midland Park Methodist Church. Both roles suited her servant heart.
Her life was a living example of the Bible verse, Ephesians 4:32 — “And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.”
Jackie is survived by her husband, Joseph J. James of Goose Creek, SC; her brother, Carl Lee (Ellen); her four children and their spouses, Rhonda Gombaski (Andrew) of St. Mary’s, GA, Paul James (Jane) of Mount Pleasant, SC, Michele James (Justin) of Goose Creek, SC, and Shawn James (Sheila) of Hanahan, SC; nine grandchildren, Joseph Creswell, Meagan Banks (Drew), Quinn James, Caroline James, Andrew Gombaski III (Gabraleigh), Amandalyn Hood (Zach), Shelby Clark (AJ), Jaden Nunez (Jacqueline), and Dupree James; four step-grandchildren, Addie Bonner (Caleb), Austin Crouse, Kalee Crouse, and Ava Carroll; five great-grandchildren, Jordan Putti, Dylan Hood, Natalie Clark, Roland Hood, and Andrew Gombaski IV; two step-great-grandchildren, Tynleigh and Austyn Bonner.
