Clyde was born October 1, 1930, in Florence, SC to Bernard and Maude Whaley. His parents soon separated, and he moved to Charleston, SC to live with his mother. In 1940, Paul Pooser came into their lives and became Clyde’s father. Clyde attended North Charleston High School and graduated in 1948. Throughout high school, Clyde was active in football, basketball, and boy scouts. Right after high school he worked for Cameron and Barkley plumbing supply and his father’s company Pooser Plumbing and Heating. In 1949 Clyde attended a dance at Folly Beach and met the love of his life, Barbara Lysaught. With the pending Korean War, he joined the Navy. After basic training, Clyde and Barbara married on Feb 13, 1950, in Charleston, SC at his mother’s house. They were stationed at Norfolk, VA while Clyde served on the USS Jarvis as a torpedoman from Feb 8, 1951, to July 28, 1954. Due to injuries, he was honorably discharged and then worked for West Vaco. From this marriage, 2 beautiful children were born: son, Rusty in 1954 and daughter, Terry in 1958. Their lives were beautiful and sweet. Too soon he was widowed in 1986 and their springer spaniel, Duffy, became his comfort and best friend. Then in 1996 he married Sedalia; however, they separated but remained life-long friends. He continued living his life through his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his faith in God. He always said, “he came from a long line of beautiful people!”
Clyde was a true sportsman and outdoorsman. He loved spending time at the Duck Pen. Clyde would always be singing a little ditty or whistling. Throughout his life he strived to help others and went on missionary trips to Argentina and Ireland. He loved Argentina! He always gave good advice, was a good mentor, and never met a stranger. He loved to go camping and spending time with his family.
Clyde leaves behind his son, Rusty (Sandy) Whaley of Prosperity, SC, daughter, Terry (William) Tuttle of Ridgeville, SC, and daughter Tracey Cocker of North Charleston, SC; six grandchildren: Carrie, Shawn, Bryan, Tim, Kim, and Chad; 14 great-grandchildren; and many dear beloved friends, especially Johnny and Shirley Walker of Trenton, FL.
He is preceded in death by his wife Barbara; his parents Paul and Maude Pooser, Bernard Whaley, his best friend Duffy; and several dear family and friends.
