October 17, 1942 - September 2, 2022
It is with a heavy heart that the family of Oliver Raymond Fiddler announce his peaceful passing at the Battlefords District Care Centre in the early morning of September 2, 2022, at the age of 79. Oliver was dearly loved and his memory will be cherished by his daughter Sandra Fiddler, sons Mike Fiddler and Danny Fiddler, grandchildren Shayna Fiddler, Hayden Fiddler (Allyson Fehr), Seth Fiddler, and Olivia Fiddler; great-grandchildren Lexi and Aiden, sister Darlene Patrick, sister-in-law Debbie Fiddler, nieces Tracy (Todd) Trann, Dara (Ryan) Aebig, nephew Dale Patrick and numerous cousins, relatives, and friends. Oliver was predeceased by his parents Edgar & Antoinette Fiddler, brothers Jimmy Fiddler and Dennis Fiddler, daughter Tammy Fiddler, and grandchildren Wesley & Tessa.
Oliver was born in Batoche, where he lived most of his life on his river lot acreage. He attended grade school in nearby Gabriel, while also helping out on the family farm. He worked as a concrete finisher, working for Conmac, Inter-Provincial, and Mid-West Concrete until his retirement at 67 years old.
Oliver enjoyed the laid-back lifestyle of the countryside. He enjoyed the little things such as cutting his grass, chopping wood, and sitting outside on his lawn. A self-taught mechanic, he could often be found working on vehicles or changing the oil in his children’s cars. In the summer, dad always looked forward to the yearly rodeo and chuckwagon races in Batoche, One Arrow, Duck Lake, and St. Louis. During the winter, he enjoyed watching the senior hockey games in Rosthern, Hague, Cudworth, and Wakaw. Dad loved listening to classic country music and news talk radio, as well as reading the newspaper and watching the news. He enjoyed his trips to Rosthern and socializing over coffee, driving to Prince Albert for shopping, and taking in the PBR car auctions every weekend in Saskatoon. Dad’s greatest thrill was when family and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren would come to visit him at home. He cherished the company, sharing laughs and telling stories.
Three years ago, Oliver moved from his home in Batoche to North Battleford where he lived his final two-and-a-half years at the Battleford District Care Centre. Our family is appreciative and forever grateful to the BDCC staff on Ward 4 for your care, communication, and compassion for making dad’s time there enjoyable and comfortable. We also appreciate the tireless efforts accommodating family visits during and after the pandemic.
The funeral service for Oliver will be held Friday, September 9th at 1 pm in Rosthern, SK., at the St. Odilon Roman Catholic Church, 3004 Saskatchewan St. with lunch afterward and interment at the Batoche Cemetery to follow.
