Before moving to Oklahoma in 1990, Richard lived in Kentucky and Illinois. Richard retired as a Master Sergeant in the US Army before he went on to own his own business of Antiques and Restoration.
In Richard’s free time, he loved listening to country music and The Platters, gold prospecting, jewelry making, civil war history, woodworking, and antiques.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents Joseph Paul Smith and Bessie Elizabeth Smith, sister Jody Burd and husband Marvin.
Richard is survived by his wife Dorthy Smith of the home; children Annette Smith (Raveendra Singh) of Wildwood, MO, Christina Smith of Choctaw, OK, Emanuel Williams of Choctaw, OK, Elgin Smith of Choctaw, OK, Caryn Lou Brown (Theodore) of Choctaw, OK, Tery Shoemake (James) of Muskogee, OK, and Ronda Eckart (Shelton) of Moore, OK; sister Virginia Richardson of Mesquite, TX; 10 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 1 nieces, and a host of extended family and friends.
A visitation for Richard will be held Tuesday, July 2, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Primrose Funeral Service, 1109 North Porter Ave, Norman, OK 73071. A graveside service will occur Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Sunny Lane Funeral Home & Cemetery, 4000 SE 29th St, Del City, OK 73115.
