Larry Dean Stewart

Larry was born on October 1, 1955 to William and LaDean (Read) Stewart in Newark, Ohio. He was raised in Inola, Oklahoma, and was a proud member of the very first high school football team in Inola. After graduating from high school, he joined the US Army, serving active duty for 4 years then after a brief break, joined the US Army Reserves, retiring in 2015 for a total of 40 years total service.

Larry received a bachelor’s degree from Northeastern State University and persued a life-long dream of going to law school, graduating in 1998 from the University of Oklahoma Law School. He also spent a year in Aberdeen, Scotland studying at King’s College and was approved to make up “drill” for the Reserves by assisting cadet training at Aberdeen UOTC. Larry always remembered his background and where he came from and was proud of his Scottish heritage.

He is a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Norman and the Oklahoma Bar Association.

Larry described himself as “frugal”, always looking for “deal” or a “bargain”, sometimes to the chagrin of his family. He advocated for those who could not speak for themselves and never turned anyone away that needed legal help, or any kind of helping hand. Larry had a good heart and wanted to do so much with his family and friends and pass on his vast knowledge of everything. He was also a huge procrastinator—but in a loving way.

He is preceded in death by his parents, William (Bill) and LaDean (Read) Stewart. He leaves behind daughters LaShelle Givens, Rachel Miller and son Landry Stewart. Siblings Rita (Paul) Aelmore, Laura (Bryan) Green, William “Bill” (Tomoko) Stewart, Jr and Rhonda (Rusty) Chevalier; 5 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and their children. He also leaves behind his life-long friend, David (Cuchara Dave) Spangler who recalls numerous incidents and stories that are suitable for the written word. His absence will be truly missed.

Visitation will be held at Primrose Funeral Service Thursday, August 25th from 6-8 pm. Funeral services will also be held at Primrose Funeral Service Chapel on Friday, August 25th at 10:00 am. Interment to follow at East View Cemetery in Vernon, TX (3 pm).

A visitation for Larry will be held Thursday, August 25, 2022 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Primrose Funeral Service, 1109 North Porter Ave, Norman, OK 73071. A funeral service will occur Friday, August 26, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 1109 North Porter Ave, Norman, OK 73071. A graveside service will occur Friday, August 26, 2022 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at East View Cemetery, 8271 CR 105 South, Vernon, TX 76384.
