James George “Jim” Miller arrived at his Heavenly Home on Saturday, July 6, 2024 with his loving daughters at his side. The youngest child of George Dewey and Bessie Mae (Popejoy) Miller, Jim was born on November 18, 1933 on the farm in Moore, Oklahoma. Life was filled with farming, gardening, raising cattle, hunting, fishing and trapping like many of the neighbors. After finishing the prescribed 8 grades in a one-room school at age 14, he joined a plumbing shop in Midwest City where two of his older brothers worked.
In 1955, he met and married the “love of his life”, Delora Faith Woolsey from Lone Wolf, Oklahoma. Three daughters were born to this union…Venaria Mae, Mary Faith, and Martha Ann. He took a plumbing job at the University of Oklahoma in 1957 from which he retired in 1985.
The family moved to Slaughterville, Oklahoma in 1977 where they continued farming, gardening, raising cattle, quail and a few pigeons establishing Miller Quail Farm, and training bird dogs. He lovingly cared for his ailing wife until her passing in 2000. He also served as Captain on the Slaughterville Volunteer Fire Department. In 2019, he returned to Moore with daughter Venaria to be closer to family.
Jim is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Delora, his parents George and Bessie, 3 brothers Dewey and wife Josephine, Charlie “Stump” and wife Norma Jean, Glen and wife Joyce, 3 sisters Oleta and husband Wayne “Scotty” Scott, Ida Mae and husband Paul Robins, Juanita and husbands Melvin Rinner and Buster Latimer, 1 sister-in-law Marjorie and husband James V. McClure. He is survived by daughters Venaria of Moore, Faith and husband Mike Bruehl of Moore, Martha and husband Steve Webb of Lawton, grandsons Brandon Bruehl and fiancée Kesha Cossey, Clint and wife Melissa Bruehl, and the newest love of his life, great-granddaughter Taylor Faith Bruehl, all of Moore, 1 brother-in-law Marion “Bud” and wife Janell Woolsey of Altus, 2 sisters-in-law Lois Cross of Nicoma Park, and Judy Hill of Katy, Texas, numerous nieces and nephews and a large host of friends. He was the “wealthiest” of men!
The last few years have been tainted by illnesses, but his waiting has ended and he is now in the arms of his Lord.
“We do not grieve as those who have no hope”, but cheerfully await our reunion with Daddy and Mama!
Services will be held at a later date.
