Dale was very curious about anything that moved, had wheels or could be worked on which sometimes got him in trouble. At age 3, he took his sister’s brand new tricycle apart & put it back together in less than 24 hours. He thought he could fix an old TV to have a better picture so he took the back off and threw the breakers.
In 1967 the family moved to Newcastle, OK, Dale was excited to move to the 10 acres with a fishing pond. He quickly made friends with neighbors and school mates. He LOVED living in the country where he could ride his bike down the side of the dam at the pond, climb to the very top of the elm trees, and fish or swim anytime he wanted. He was active in 4-H, showing Chester White pigs. Participated in Share-The-Fun, a performing skit activity in 4-H. Dale learned the value of hard work at a young age from watching and helping his Mom and Dad, staying with both sets of grandparents on their farms where he drove the tractors, moved irrigation pipes, hoed peanuts and rewarded with a swim in the lake, creek or pond.
He graduated from Newcastle High School in 1978 and also attended Mid-America Vo-Tech for small engine repair. He was offered a job straight out of school with Briggs & Stratton Engines, but didn’t want to move to Dallas. He lived in the Tri-City area and worked about 15 years for Troy Wesnidge Furniture. He worked several jobs over the years.
He met and married Jenna Lynn Hartness from Noble, OK on October 6th, 1984. Eventually, they made their home in Norman, OK. Laci Lynn McBride was born May 31, 1996. She was a Daddy’s girl from the beginning and he adored her. He would get up early just to watch cartoons and play with her before leaving for work. And in the evening he would let her play & swim in the pool. In 2001, his wife Jenna passed away.
In 1991, Dale began his career working for the Norman Walmart in the Automotive Department. Sam Walton used to visit each store from time to time and it happened Dale got to meet him, he told everyone that Sam was friendly and just like any other guy. He was proud of the 33 years he worked at Walmart and probably would have worked a couple more years, but God had other plans.
He met Teri (Garrity) Stockman from Norman, OK, when he asked her to marry him, she set the wedding date on Dale’s birthday, explaining he would never forget their anniversary. They were married on March 11, 2004 in Norman, OK. This year would have been their 20th anniversary.
Dale was easy going and he loved his child; growing tomatoes & large sunflower, feeding the birds, his dogs, swimming in his pool and fishing. He raised an abandoned squirrel he named Jake, and restored 2 vintage pickups.
He entered rest on Monday, February 5, 2024, at the HealthPlex in Norman, OK at the age of 64. Per his wishes, his ashes will be scattered on the land where he grew-up in Newcastle, OK.
