Billie graduated from Central High School in Norman, Oklahoma. She served in the World War II effort by working at the Naval Air Technical Center (South Base) in the canteen and as a riveter at Douglas Aircraft. She and her friend Jo loved dancing with the sailors from South Base on the weekends. Throughout her life, Billie worked as a bookkeeper, homemaker, raised cattle and farmed. She volunteered with Health for Friends for many years in their dental clinic.
Billie was an avid fan of the stock car races, loved all kinds of music, would dance with anyone who asked and she never met a stranger. She pulled a trailer to horse shows all over the state to watch her daughter Leesa and her friends ride. She was a life-long member of Church of Christ.
She is lovingly remembered by her family, Leesa Hames, Lee and Debbie Sawyer, Mel and Tonda Hames, Larry and Judy Hames, Jim and Deanna Hames, Marylin Helm, Virginia and Keith Wendorff, Kathy and Raymond Cox and 63 grandchildren.
A graveside service for Billie will be held Friday, August 19, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Norman IOOF Cemetery, 1913 N. Porter ave, Norman, OK 73071.
