Mrs. Shirley Anne LaMendola

Shirley Anne LaMendola (83) passed away on Saturday, December 7, 2019. She was born in Donora, Pennsylvania to the late Margaret and Julian Anderson. Shirley was a graduate of Donora Senior High’s class of 1954. She enjoyed shopping, cooking, baking, crafts, taking care of everyone, and nothing got between her and her Pittsburgh Steelers, Penguins, or Pirates. Once her three children were of school age, she became a School Bus Driver for the Virginia Beach City Public Schools and there retired. She was a devoted member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 59 years, Donald J. LaMendola; her daughter, Leanne Self, her two sons, Patrick LaMendola (Anne) and Raymond LaMendola (Noel); her four grandchildren, Marissa Self, Todd Self, Samuel LaMendola, and Rachel LaMendola; her sister, Lois Massey; her two nieces, Jodi Weber and Jeri Book (Lou); her five nephews, Bobby Massey, Scotty Massey, David Lunt, Robert Gaitens, and Mark Gaitens; her dear friend and cousin, Lorraine Bednarowski; an extended family and many friends. She is preceded in death by her mother, her father, and her sister, Carol Lunt. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, 6329 E Virginia Beach Blvd, Norfolk, VA 23502 from 6-8pm. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, December 12, 2019, officiated by Fr. Eric Vogt at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 5345 Virginia Beach Blvd, Virginia Beach, VA 23462 at 10am, followed by interment in the Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, 6309 E Virginia Beach Blvd, Norfolk, VA 23502 at 11:30am.
