Helen Mildred Edwards, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, May 25, 2023 at the age of 91 in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Helen was born in Southampton County, VA to the late Clinton and Doris Fleetwood Beale. Helen was preceded in passing by husband James Artis Edwards; son, Johnnie Lee Beale; Sisters-Catherine, Audrey, Francis and Dorothy; Brothers-Rufus and Christopher and a son-in-law, Ramon Cannady.
Helen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and a great-great grandmother. She prioritized her life for her faith and her family. She lived a long life overcoming hardships and seeing many firsts in this world. She was a determined, resilient and selfless lady always putting others before herself. In her spare time, Helen loved fishing, sewing and gardening. Helen was a NAACP member and became a devoted foster mother. She was pivotal in so many people’s lives, she will be forever missed. She will be cherished in memory by her children, Ann Ruffins (Robert), Gail Willis (Steven), Barbara Cannady, Richard Edwards (Susan), Christopher Edwards, and Tamara Stevens; sister, Barbara Britt (Johnny) as well a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and significant family members and friends.
There will be a Celebration of Life starting at 1:00 pm, Monday, June 5, 2023 at Woodlawn Funeral Home. After the service, interment will immediately follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. After the completion of services, the family invites everybody back to the Woodlawn Funeral Home reception hall for a repass to fellowship with the family.
