IN THE CARE OF
Woodlawn Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens
Effie S. Robinson passed away peacefully on September 11, 2013. She was born November 9, 1925 to Joe G. and Margaret R. Sanderlin of Norfolk, who preceded her in death.
She attended Coleman Place Elementary and Norview High School, and graduated from Mary Washington College in 1945. As a Girl Scout of Troop 24, Park Place, at the age of 15, she twice earned the curved bar and 31 merit badges, at the time the only Girl Scout in the Tidewater area to have done so.
She was a teacher at Ruffner Jr. High, South Norfolk, Norview and Granby High Schools. She was a Home Economist for the Virginia Electric and Power Co., and an Executive Director for the Tidewater Dairy Council, which was absorbed by the Southeast United Dairy Industrial Association, and retired from there as a Regional Vice President. She was a member of Baylake United Methodist Church, and also a member of Suburban Woman’s Club, and the Norfolk Senior Citizens Center.
Effie and Frank were married for 62 years this past May. It should be noted that the two of them were quite physically active, sailing, playing tennis three days a week, and Effie often walking the beach for miles, until their health declined approximately 18 months ago. She was also involved in several activities at Westminster, especially F. & J.
Effie is survived by her husband Hunter “Frank” Robinson, Jr. of Westminster Canterbury; Brother Joseph G. Sanderlin Jr. (J. “Faye”) VA. Beach; Niece Jo Lynn Adams (Mark) of Salem, VA.; Nephew, Joseph G. Sanderlin III “J.G.” (Mary), of Dublin, OH.; Great-nephews, D.K. Staton of Alexandria, VA., and Allen G. Sanderlin of Dublin, OH.; Great-nieces, Katie Zimmerman (David) of Arlington, VA., and Amanda Rawlins (Jonas) of Roanoke, VA., all her “favorites”.
A graveside service was held for Effie on September 13, 2013 at Woodlawn Cemetery. A memorial service will be held on October 12, 2013 at 2:30PM at Westminster Canterbury by the Reverend Greg Dalle-Tezze. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association or a charity of one’s choice will be appreciated. Condolences may be offered at www.woodlawngroup.com.
