David Byrd, 66, of Norfolk, Virginia entered the Kingdom of Heaven on Sunday, March 24, 2013. He was born in Fredericksburg, Virginia to Paul Byrd, Sr. and Lucille Chandler Byrd. David served in the Army in Vietnam, Korea and Japan. He attended Liberty University Bible College. A man of deep spiritual faith, David helped others grow in their own faith, speaking of God’s grace. He lived an exemplary life of a devoted Christian.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Wayne and Michael; sisters Judy and Joanne; and his wife Carla also preceded him.
He is survived by his loving wife Frances Byrd of the home; his children Ricky, Melissa and Cherry Lynn; brothers Paul, Richard, Jimmy, Johnny, Dennis, Gary and Patrick; sisters Elizabeth and Patricia; and five grandchildren Cameron and Jackson Begley, and MacKensie, Trey and Austin Ringuette of Virginia Beach who were especially loved and cherished by David. He also leaves behind his devoted and loving cat Amy.
The family will receive friends on Monday, April 1, from 6-8pm at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd Norfolk. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 2, at 1pm at Holland Road Baptist Church, 4881 Euclid Rd. Virginia Beach, with Pastors Jay McCoy and Rob Pittman officiating. Interment will be at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Veteran’s Cemetery in Suffolk. The family of David extends their heartfelt thanks to everyone in the Holland Road Baptist Church community for their good deeds, thoughts, prayers and support.
