OBITUARY
Charles L. Ballentine
29 August, 1942 – 5 December, 2011
Charles Linscott Ballentine went to be with the Lord on December 5, 2011 after a 2 year battle with cancer. Charles was born in Virginia on August 29, 1942. He was predeceased by his parents, AB and Sarah Ballentine; his sister Beverly; his brother Bart, and his dear childhood friend, Terry Sawyer.
Charles served proudly in the United States Marines with two tours in Vietnam. He worked for the City of Norfolk for 25 years. He was a charter member of Brentwood Baptist Church and a Deacon. He also was a member of Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 969, and had been involved in many VVA Service projects.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 33 years, Margaret Ann; his son Charles and fiancé Nilda Barnes; granddaughter Marissa Spinhoward; two nieces, Mrs. Stacey McLaughlin and Mrs. Kim Brookover and their families. He is also survived by his “adopted” son Rick McDaniel and family; dear friend Ray Zumpol; special friend and caregiver Mrs. CJ and a host of church, VVA and local friends.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 8, 2011 from 6:00– 8:00pm at Smith and Williams Funeral Home, 818 Norview Ave., Norfolk VA 23509.
A Celebration of life will be held on Friday, December 9, 2011 at 10:00 am at the funeral home. Burial will follow immediately at Rosewood Memorial Park.
