Annie Louise Joyner, age 101, known to her family as Louise, but to her grandchildren as “YeYe,” transitioned peacefully home to be with the Lord Sunday, June 6, 2021. She was born January 23, 1920 in South Hampton County, Franklin, Virginia to the late Marth Jane Barnes and George Barnes. She preceded in death by husband Emmett Joyner, baby boy Rodney Joyner (Ricky), siblings George Willey Barnes, Gladys Jordan, Floyd Barnes, Harvey Barnes, Mary Elizabeth Davis, Ruth Porter, Betty Whitehead, Richard Barnes, Thelma Barnes Stith and John Wesley Barnes.
We celebrate the life of a special person who brighten days, warmed hearts and brought so much happiness into the lives of so many people. She was very family oriented; she loved her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. She lived to see and enjoy life with six generations. Louise’s passion in life was serving God, in one way or another. As a young woman she attended White Oak Springs Baptist Church. She relocated to Virginia Beach, and joined Morning Star Baptist Church. She was a faithful member of the Usher Board and the oldest member of the Mother Board. Louise was recognized as being the “Oldest member of Morning Star Baptist Church on August 6, 2019.” One thing that everyone knows, Louise loved the Lord.
She dedicated 31 years of her life not just being a domestic assistant but caring for all her grandchildren. She was the glue that held the family together. She always took her family in. She will be sorely missed.
Louise leave to cherish her memories to her seven children; sons Emmett Joyner III and Gary Joyner; daughters, Anne Johnson, Shirley Bowen, Jane White, and Jacqueline Browning; lovely sisters Delores Barnes and Frances Barnes Flowers. She leaves behind 18 grandchildren: 34 great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
