The family of Vivian McRae sadly announced her passing on April 28, 2012 at 84 years of age. She was predeceased by her husband Bruce (2000) and her grandson Brian (2004). Vivian is remembered with love by her daughters Paisley Gillies and Heather Stewart and sons-in-law Bob Gillies and Larry Stewart, and her grandchildren Kevin Gillies, Christopher Stewart, and Vanessa Stewart. She will also be missed by her friend Jack Finlay. Vivian was born and raised in Niagara Falls and was a member of Stamford United Church and the Order of the Eastern Star. She worked part-time in the office of Canadian Ohio Brass for many years. In 1999, Vivian and Bruce marked 50 happy years of marriage. Vivian enjoyed her home and garden and family times spent at the cottage in Quebec. She liked to travel, first with Bruce, then in her later years with her daughters and their families. A family trip to Tuscany in 2008 was a highlight, with raucous dinners, sightseeing and much laughter. Her constant companion in her later years was her beloved dachshund, Sammy. The family would like to thank their many friends for their thoughts and prayers and are very grateful for the care Vivian received, first at Pioneer Elder Care then at the St. Catharines General Hospital.
Family and friends will be received at Hetherington & Deans Funeral Chapel, 5176 Victoria Avenue on Tuesday from 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 PM. A funeral service will be held in the chapel on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at 11 o’clock. Interment in Fairview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated.
