September 11th 1938 - October 1st 2016.
On Saturday, Pete left us peacefully as he carried on in his next bicycle journey. Husband to his amazing wife Barbara (Hilston) for 53 years. Fantastic and proud father to his children Kelly, Michael, and daughter in-law Valerie. Adoring Grandfather to his number one granddaughter, Mazy Dee.
Son of the late Sydney and Zoe, Pete was a loving brother to Duke (Gerry), Bob (Mary) and Karen (Doug). Special in-laws: Carole (Gary), Tommy (Jean), Debi (Pete) Sue (Mike ) and Kim (Anne). Thanks for being there as helping hands, comic relief and for the many hugs. Much love to all of his nieces and nephews. Special thanks to our furry family members, Johnny Cash whom Dad loved to walk every day, and Miss Ellie for being a great distraction and sharing her love.
Thank you to Pete's special team at Meadows of Dorchester who were like family and provided the utmost compassion and comfort to him through to the end. With your help, Pete was able to pass peacefully and with complete dignity; we are forever grateful for that.
Dad had a great life filled with family and friends—road trips, football parties and travel with friends. He loved to lawn bowl, have family picnics and pool parties. After 32 years of outstanding service at Ford Glass Plant, he retired to groom and nurture his impeccable garden. He was always a generous volunteer, lending his green thumb to the flower beds at St. Stephen’s Church, being there for his family and friends, growing his own flowers for his Trillium Award winning gardens, painting his kids houses, plowing the sidewalks in his neighbourhood and keeping the roundabout circle in beautiful shape.
Pete's wishes were to be cremated and forego the standard funeral procedure and preferred we celebrate his life. If you would like to honour Dad, we know he would ask you to hug a friend, help a neighbour, and be a volunteer. In lieu of flowers you can make a charitable donation to Meadows of Dorchester or donate towards a Memorial Bench at Fairview Cemetery in Peter's name through Hetherington & Deans Funeral Chapel, 905-354-5614. Online tributes and condolences may be made at www.hetheringtonanddeans.com
We miss you, Dad. And we’ll see you on the other side.
