John G. Van Wyk

Passed away peacefully on Monday, January, 7, 2013 at the age of 87. John is survived by his wife Margaret, children Karen (Mike Wright), Lynne (Mike Karagias), Bruce (Molly) and Joan (Russ Duhaime). He was also loved by 8 grandchildren – Avery, Emma, Celia, Brendan, Jake, Will, Connor and Owen.

John is also missed by his sister Cora Lopers and by many nieces and nephews. John was born in 1925 in Holland where he experienced the hardships of World War II. He later moved to Canada. John and Margaret attended Lundy’s Lane United Church for many years. John was a carpenter and dedicated teacher for 30 years at A.N. Myer S.S. from its opening in 1957. He also enjoyed singing in the Niagara Men’s Chorus, climbed many times in the Skylon Cancer fundraiser, was a volunteer driver for the Canadian Cancer Society and sailed out of the Niagara-on-the-Lake Sailing Club. Our family would like to thank Millennium Trail Manor for their excellent care over the past year.

Family and friends will be received at Hetherington & Deans Funeral Chapel, 5176 Victoria Avenue for a memorial visitation on Thursday evening from 6:30 - 8:00 PM. A service of remembrance will be held at Lundy's Lane United Church, 5825 Lowell Avenue on Friday, January 11, 2013 at 11 AM. Private interment in Lundy's Lane Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the charity of your choice in John’s name would be appreciated.
