Surrounded by his loving family, Harry died peacefully at home on Sunday, January 10, at the age of 100. Harry is survived by his wife of 72 years, Bernice, and four children: Laura Rosberg (Gerald Rosberg), Ted Sauer (Diana Krinner and the late Maureen Sauer), Beverly Sauer (Eric Gawman), and Craig Sauer (Patti Sauer). Also remembered and deeply missed by six grandchildren: Leslie Rosberg (Sudeep Sarma), Leonard Sauer (Danna Barak), Harrison Jones, Robert Sauer, Carson Sauer and Emily Sauer and three great grandchildren: Rohan and Ashwin Sarma, and Sloane Sauer. Harry was predeceased by his brother and best friend Sheldon.
Harry was the founder of Sauer’s Drugstore on Victoria Avenue in Niagara Falls and ran it from its inception in 1946 until succeeded by his son Craig in 1988. He remained actively involved in the business until his retirement in 2000.
He was born in Willoughby Township in 1915, attended Sauer’s Evangelical Church in Willoughby, and graduated from the University of Toronto Ontario College of Pharmacy in 1939. He was a member of Clifton Lodge and a Shriner, and of the Stamford Kiwanis Club. Above all he was devoted to his family who remember him for his gentleness, his integrity, his sense of humor.

Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, January 13 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at HETHERINGTON & DEANS FUNERAL CHAPEL, 5176 Victoria Ave. (905-354-5614). A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, January 14 at 12 p.m. at Stamford Lane United Church, 3855 St. Peter Ave. (905-354-8841). Burial will follow in Lundy’s Lane Cemetery.
