Tom was born on August 8, 1937 in Newark, New Jersey to the late Anthony and Anna (Dente) Pampalone. He grew up in Irvington, attending Newark Academy and later Brown University. Tom was a star athlete and champion diver on Brown’s swim team. He received his PhD in the field of organic chemistry from the University of Cincinnati and completed post doctorate work at the University of Heidelberg in Germany, before working as a research scientist for DuPont. He later received his master’s degree in education at the University of Montana and taught middle and high school in Livingston, Montana. Prior to his retirement, Tom worked in technical and leadership positions for RCA, General Electric and Hoechst Celanese Corporation in New Jersey’s technology industry and was awarded nineteen patents in the field of advanced silicone chip design and manufacturing. In his free time Tom was a carpenter and avid gardener.
Tom is survived by his sons, Michael, Eric, Peter and Thomas Pampalone; his grandchildren, Justin, Collin, Alex, Aaron and Anna Maria and his sisters, Rosemary Zoppo, Corinne Robecki and Dianne Greene. Tom was predeceased by his sister, Janet Shallcross and granddaughter, Caitlin Jayne Pampalone.
