Anne Marie was born in Exeter, Pennsylvania, moving to Pittston, Pennsylvania while still an infant. She graduated from the Pittston School System in 1946 and was awarded a scholarship to attend Misericordia University in Dallas, Pennsylvania, graduating with a degree in Social Work in 1950. She completed her student training at an orphanage in Elmhurst, Pennsylvania, and Catholic Charities in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Following her graduation, Anne Marie worked with Catholic Charities for six months before deciding to return to college to obtain her Certification in Elementary Education.
For the next ten years, she worked as a first-grade teacher in the New Brunswick School System. She married her husband, Russ in 1960. They purchased a home in Piscataway, adopted their beloved son Kenneth in 1964, and then moved to Franklin in 1968. Soon after, Anne Marie was diagnosed with breast cancer. As a cancer survivor, she served as a Reach to Recovery volunteer and was honored by the Cancer Society of New Jersey as Volunteer of the Year. Anne Marie returned to teaching at Fredon School and retired after 31 years.
During retirement, she volunteered at St. Joseph School, became a hospital and church Eucharistic Minister, a reader at Mass, and spent time with her grandchildren, all while she and Russ cared for her father for eighteen years after he suffered a stroke shortly following her mother’s death.
The daughter of the late Victor and Irene (nee Skrinak) Ulivitch; Anne Marie was also predeceased by her son, Kenneth English. Anne Marie is survived by her husband of 63 years, Russell; her daughter-in-law, Gina of Frankford Township; her four granddaughters, Brittany, Kristen, Lauren, and Leah English; as well as her sister, Janet Selesky.
Visitation will be held from 5 pm to 8 pm on Friday, April 28, 2023, at the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High St, Newton, NJ. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 am on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at St. Joseph R.C. Church, 24 Halsted St, Newton, NJ.
