Bob grew up in the northern suburbs of Baltimore, MD, and graduated from the Baltimore Polytechnic Institute. He joined the Navy (Seabees) shortly after the Pearl Harbor attack and served almost four years, including duty in Hawaii and the Central Pacific. After the war he completed the requirements for an electrical engineering degree at the University of Colorado and accepted an offer from GE, his employer for the next 37 years.
One of his early assignments with GE was in Pittsfield, MA, where he met Caroline Chervenie, who was working as an engineering assistant. They were married in 1947.
He earned an MBA at American International College. Bob served in a number of engineering and marketing management positions over the years and retired in 1983.
He participated in a number of church and community organizations through the years.
Left to cherish his memory are his son, Robert Andrew Branflick, Jr. and his wife Sarah, of Madison, WI; his daughter, MaryEllen Uthlaut and husband Herb, of Charleston, SC; six grandchildren, Robert Uthlaut, David Uthlaut and wife Haley, John Uthlaut and wife Becca, Anne Uthlaut, Kate Branflick and Rob Branflick; and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held November 9, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of The Ascension in Hickory, NC with Rev. Karla Woggon officiating.
