She was born in Catawba County on July 6, 1924 to the late Joseph Fesper and Nonie Sherrill Gabriel.
In addition to her parents Nancy was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, James Saunders; and 10 brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her son, Jimmy Saunders and wife Pam; a granddaughter, Alex Saunders; and a number of special loving and caring nieces and nephews.
Nancy was a lifelong member of Hopewell United Methodist Church in Sherrills Ford. She worked in Management for over 40 years at Peoples Bank. She loved her career and banking family. She was a member of the Catawba Chapter 124 Order of the Eastern Star.
Family was very important to her, and she loved spending time with them, especially summers at the lake and beach. She and Jim also loved to travel and see and experience new things. From a young age she loved to play and enjoy the game of basketball, she especially enjoyed watching her Tar heels play. In her later years she enjoyed sitting on her back patio with her flowers and watching the many different birds that came to visit.
Special thanks go to her friend and caregiver, Janice Propst for all the love and care she gave Nancy over the last 10 years; the staff of Abernathy Laurels Assisted Living and the staff of Abernethy Laurels Rehab, and the staff of Home Instead for their loving in home care.
