Jewell Gordon Wooten

Jewell Gordon Wooten, 87, went to be with her Lord on Monday, June 5, 2023, in her beloved adopted hometown of Newton, NC. Jewell was born on June 12, 1935, in Union County, North Carolina, to the late Joseph Eugene Gordon and Lila Edwards Gordon. She graduated as valedictorian of Mineral Springs High School. After graduation, she soon met and married her beloved husband of 43 years, Dr. Gerald F. Wooten, an optometrist who practiced for 40 years in Newton before his death in December of 2000. Jewell was a devoted wife and wonderful mother to her four children and wholeheartedly embraced and loved being a homemaker.

Jewell was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Gerald F. Wooten; one daughter, Kelly Gordon Wooten; and two brothers, Ernest Gene Gordon and Donald Edwards Gordon.

She is survived by her sister, Betty Gordon Smith; son, Gerald F. Wooten, Jr. (Stefanie); daughter Kim Wooten Balderson (Darryl); daughter Kristy Elizabeth Wooten; and five grandchildren: Wyatt Cossich, Jackson Cossich, Abby Wooten, Hunter Wooten, and Jenna Balderson, all of whom loved her deeply and were blessed to call her sister, mother, and grandmother.
