Hazel Smyre Beal

Hazel Smyre Beal, age 90, passed away on December 24, 2012 at Catawba Regional Hospice in Newton. Born March 26, 1922, she was the daughter of the late William Smyre and Edna Hefner Smyre. Hazel was an inspector in the textile industry and a lifelong member of Beth Eden Lutheran Church in Newton.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Ray Bandy Beal.

Hazel is survived by daughter, Maria Peeler and husband, Jeff, of Newton; sons, Glenn W. Beal and wife, Elaine, of Newton, David R. Beal of Conover; brother-in-law, Coyte Beal of Newton;

sisters-in-law, Alice Barnes and husband, Tommy, of Newton, Beatrice Beal of Newton; grandchildren, Jeremy Beal of Lincolnton, Kristi Goble and husband, James, of Hudson,

Gregory Peeler of Newton; step-grandson, Dale Leonhardt of Hickory; great-grandchildren, Kobi Beal, Aidan Coffing; lifelong friends, Joe and Nancy Killian of Newton.

A Service of Remembrance will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Beth Eden Lutheran Church with Rev. Marcus Ollis officiating. Burial will follow at Eastview Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Friday, December 28, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home in Newton and at other times at the home.
