Born October 10, 1947, in Iredell County, he was the son of the late William Coyte Sigmon and Dorothy Rebecca Manley Sigmon.
Harold was a dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Harold loved spending time with his family and in the mountains. He also loved camping, fishing, and hunting. He loved his brothers in blue. Darrell was like a brother to him and David was like a son to him.
He was honorably discharged from the US Navy. Harold served as an EMT for 15 years in Catawba County. He also served as a police officer for 28 years, serving 26 years at Newton Police Department, where he retired in 2009.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his 2 sisters, Anna Schronce and Rita Thompkins.
Harold is survived by his wife of 52 years, Shirley Sigmon; 4 children, Harold Sigmon, Jr. and wife, Lisa of Lenoir, Wanda Pope and husband, Alan of Conover, Angie Travis and husband, Eric of Newton and Cheryl Davidson of Newton; mother-in-law, Ruby Bradley of Newton; brother, Carl Sigmon and wife, Linda of Hildebran; 11 grandchildren, Ciera and Christine (2 of his special granddaughters, who helped take care of him in his last several months of life), Robert, Christopher and Matthew, (who he helped raise), Amanda, Josh, Cody, Nick, Brittany and Sydney; 14 great grandchildren, Mason, Cheyenne, Jaxson and Avery (who he babysat and they called him G-Paw), Bill, Nathan, Brooklyn, Brandon, Hailey, Jodie, Shaylynn, Kameron, Olivia, Santana; and a number of nieces and nephews; and special grandson-in-law, Baxter.
The family will receive from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, August 5, 2018 at Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home in Newton.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, August 6, 2018 in the chapel of Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home, with Pastor William Church officiating. Burial will follow in Brookford City Cemetery.
