On August 29, 2016, Gina Young Humphries was welcomed into the kingdom of heaven, where she was met by her beloved mother, Rebecca Sigmon Young, her cherished father, George Glenn Young, Sr., her older sisters Joyce Deese and Mylinda Dorman, her feisty mother-in-law, Gloria Rowell, and the love of her life, Kelly Pat Humphries.
After a seven-year journey with cancer, Gina passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by the warmth of family and friends who loved her endlessly.
She is survived by her two precious daughters, Ashleigh Christine Humphries and Lydia Catherine Humphries. Gina’s world revolved around her girls as she poured unconditional and selfless love onto them each and everyday. In addition, Gina is survived by a great array of family members which include: George and Mary Beth Young and their children, Amanda and Ben of Newton; Don Dorman and children, Ron, Katie, Alex, and Emily, and grandchildren, Jasper, Scarlett, and MacKenzie of Garner; Tommy and Eve Hullette, and their children, Ruth, Tobias, and Oakley of Newton; Doug and Angel Willis and their children, Ethan and Grace of Spruce Pine; Wade and Eugenia Stockman and their children, Addie, Jakob, Joshua, Joey, and Darsie of Janesville, MN; Michael and Beth Collins of Lincolnton; Fred and Marsha Brown and their children, David Brown and Sara and Dan Broberg, and granddaughter, Hattie of Long Island, New York; and the numerous forever friends and extended family who expressed their love and support throughout the years.
Gina was a graduate of Lenior-Rhyne College where she earned multiple bachelors degrees in education and a master’s degree in Academically Gifted Education. She served as a consultant and mentor in both Catawba County and throughout the state, earning the Outstanding North Carolina Administrator in Gifted Education Award in 2013. Gina was a Catawba County native, serving in the Catawba County School System her entire teaching career. She had a love and passion for music that she shared through her piano and organ playing, support for the arts, and years of being the children’s choir director at St. James Lutheran Church in Newton.
A Celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Lincolnton with Rev. Michael Collins officiating.
Her family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, September 9, 2016 at Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home in Newton, NC.
