Born July 8, 1930 in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Arney Shuford Wyant and Edith Mae Goodnight Wyant.
Charlie was a US Army veteran, having served his country for 2 years. Prior to serving in the Army, Charlie taught one year at Wadesboro High School. After serving his country, Charlie returned to Catawba County and furthered his career in education. Wyant faithfully provided extraordinary service to Catawba County by academically and intellectually inspiring thousands of Catawba County students and their families as a teacher and principal for approximately 33 years; Mr. Wyant was a Science teacher at Foard High School for 11 years before serving as the principal of Foard for 21 years. After retiring, Mr. Wyant served CCS as a member of the Catawba County Board of Education for an additional 24 years.
Charlie was a longtime member of Cookesville Masonic Lodge and board member for Propst Crossroads Fire Department for many years. He was awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine for Extraordinary Service to the State.
In addition to his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by his loving wife of 49 years, Mary Jane Rhoney Wyant; brothers, Arney Wyant, Bernice Wyant; sisters, Kate Wyant Peeler, Farris Wyant and Gladys “Dot” Wyant Ellis.
Those left to cherish his memory are his sons, Gregory Wyant, Michael Wyant, Jeffrey Wyant and wife, Lisa; brothers, Joe Wyant and wife, Scottie, Don Wyant and wife, Dottie, John Wyant and wife, Elaine; sisters, Ann Young, Sarah Parrish, Texie Richardson and husband, Jerry, Ida Williams; 4 grandchildren, Andrew Wyant, Jonathan Wyant, Joshua Wyant, Charlotte Wyant; and one great grandchild, Rhylee Wyant.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, December 23, 2018 @ Trinity Lutheran Church in Vale, with Pastor Tommy Lineberger officiating. Burial, with military honors from American Legion Post 48 will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Saturday, December 22, 2018 in the Jerry Copas gymnasium of Fred T. Foard High School, 3407 Plateau Road, Newton, NC 28658.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 2700 Trinity Church Road, Vale, NC 28168.
