Charles Anthony Hearne Sr.

Charles Anthony “Tony” Hearne, Sr., age 77, of Newton, NC, passed away on Sunday, July 11, 2021 at his residence. Born April 3, 1944, he was the son of the late Woodrow Wilson and Lillian Ingram Hearne.

Tony was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He retired after thirty years with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. Tony was an avid collector of war memorabilia.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Charles “Chip” Anthony Hearne Jr. and brother, Ronnie Hearne.

Tony is survived by his wife of 42 years, Debra McKay Hearne; son, Oren Jason “O. J.” Hearne and wife, Brittiany; daughters, Lisa Phillips and husband, Tommy, Karen Underwood and husband, Kevin; brothers, Freddie Hearne and wife, Mary, John Hearne and wife, Bernadette of North Myrtle Beach, SC; sisters, Patricia Harris and husband, Charles of Fayetteville, Lucky Lee and husband, Homer of Burgaw, NC; sister-in-law, Donna Hearne of Waxhaw, NC; grandchildren, Ayvah Hearne, Bailee Lail, Preston Lail, Easton Coady, Lindsey Barnes and husband, Tyler, Brooklyn Timmons and husband, Justin, Brandon Underwood and fiancée, Fran Suastegui; great-granddaughter, Ellie Mae Timmons; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Special devoted friends, Mr. & Mrs. Catalino Campuzano and family.

The Hearne family would like to issue a special thanks to the medical staff that administered health care over Tony’s many years of fighting cancer.

A Service of Remembrance will be held on Saturday, July 17, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home with Rev. Ray Helms officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service.
