Blanche Roy Martin, age 95, passed away on Friday, March 10, 2017 at Abernethy Laurels in Newton, NC. Born May 3, 1921 in St. Agatha, ME, she was the daughter of the late Maxime Roy and Edith Sinclair Roy.
Blanche, a mother of four, raised her children with love, devotion and a strong determination to provide for them. Although, not graduating from high school, she always had a desire to learn. She continued to self-educate through her love of reading and the many books she always had close by. Enjoying many things in life, such as, listening to music, watching a good baseball game on TV, and having a snack of crackers and cheese at mid-day. She did not need big things to provide her a feeling of contentment. She always had a strong faith in God and the teachings of the Catholic Church. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Newton, NC. Always, made time during her day to pray for others. Being born during the Depression Era, she had a strong work ethic and a sense of responsibility. She always remained true to her own convictions and lived her life on a high moral ground with dignity and honesty. She will always be in the hearts, minds and prayers of those who love her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George E. Martin and granddaughter, Melissa Buchelli; son in-law, Henry M. Fort, Jr.; sisters, Alice Lachance, Teresa Gagnon, Antoinette “Tony” Ferry, Florence Bailey and brothers, Albert Roy, Luke Roy, John Roy.
Left to cherish her memory is her sons, Clifford “Cliff” Martin and wife, Brenda of Newton, John Martin and wife, Ellie of Willington, CT; daughters, Brenda Fort of Jamestown, NC, Lorraine Long and husband, Tom of Stanley, NC; grandchildren, Todd Martin, Troy Martin, Chris Long, Daniel Long, Megan Barrow, Leslie Huber, Jerry Martin, Raelene Gliha, Valerie Martin; great-grandchildren, Sadie, Alex, Elena, Devin, Lily, Tyson, Chloe, Sophia, Gabriele, Isaac, Jackson and Oliver.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Newton with Father James Collins and Deacon Scott Gilfillan officiating.
Burial will follow at Eastview Cemetery in Newton, NC.
Her family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home in Newton, NC.
