Magda Alice was born on June 23, 1932 in Surabaja, Dutch East Indies, now called Indonesia. In March of 1942 the Dutch East Indies became occupied by the Japanese Empire during World War II. Magda Alice was collected along with her family and other people of allied nationalities and held in a concentration camp for women and children until the 15th of August 1945 when Imperial Japan had surrendered. During the occupation her stepfather was taken away by the Japanese Imperial army, and presumed missing in action. Sometime after Indonesia had claimed their independence, Madga Alice left for the Netherlands, finished her education and pursued a career in nursing. She married and had two children, Peggy and Richard. In 1960 Magda Alice divorced, and relocated to the United States, she married Albert Horlings in February of 1961 in El Monte, California. Albert and Magda Alice married in February of 1961 and moved to San Diego, California for a short time, then to Tujunga, California becoming proprietors of a senior citizens home. They had two children Heye and Phillip. After seventeen years of marriage, Magda Alice found herself widowed in 1978 when Albert died. Some years later Magda Alice found love again with John McGehee and moved to Landcaster, California until John passed away in 1995.
Magda Alice retired in Camarillo, California and enjoyed her life with family and friends. She is survived by her children, Peggy, Richard, Heye and Phillip, 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
