Dennis Alvin Gilmore was born May 27, 1944 in Los Angeles, CA to Alvin Gilmore and Ora Hutchison. He grew up in the San Fernando Valley. After living in North Hollywood for a while, his family moved to the city of Pacoima. He attended San Fernando High School where he excelled in track & field and lettered in the hurdles event. After high school he spent a short time in the army.
He loved kids and the outdoors so after leaving the army he became a camp counselor for the YMCA He also attended Pierce College and CSUN. He worked for Lockheed and the Veteran’s Administration Office, but his passion was for music. He was an amazing guitarist and was the member of a band for several years. He was a creative musician, singer, and songwriter. He toured the country and played at some awesome venues during this time. He included his wife Dorothy in a few of his music ventures. He also wrote a song “Get Up and Dance for his daughters, niece, and nephews known as the Family G to perform at Disco 9000.
In August of 1967 Dennis married Dorothy Jean McCollum. Together, they had two beautiful daughters, Tonice (Thomas) and Tina (Brown) whom he loved very much. Dorothy would precede him in death in 1986.
He is survived by his daughters, Tonice and Tina, five grandchildren, Wendell II, Justin, Ebony, Shanice, and Alvin, two great-grandchildren, Carter Jay and Myles Trey, his niece and nephews, and a multitude of cousins.
He was a kind and loving man with a beautiful soul. May GOD be with him.
