David Karl Nelson, 47, six-year resident of the community of Pine Mountain, died suddenly in his home on May 6. Dave was born April 9, 1963, in Laredo, Texas. He spent his childhood years in Texas, Northern California and New York, eventually moving to Simi Valley, California. Dave attended grammar and secondary education in Simi Valley where he made many life-long friends. He graduated from Moorpark College and received his AA degree in Criminal Justice.
Dave loved his family, and was very proud to be a father. His wife and son fulfilled his life A true animal lover, he enjoyed all living things and the nature on the mountain. Dave enjoyed a good laugh, but enjoyed making others laugh even more. For the past 7 years, he was employed by the United States Postal Service as a Letter Carrier for Valencia and the surrounding areas. Dave also recently published his first children’s book, “Trucking with Noah - North Dakota to Arizona”. This book and future ones he had in mind put another sparkle in his eye.
Dave is survived by his wife, Denise Nelson and son, David, 10; his father Karl Nelson of Camarillo; his sister, Shari Smith (and Keith) of Thousand Oaks, and his nephew Andrew (Elissa) and nephews Michael and Daniel; his sisters Vicki Griem (Ted), Kris Holcomb (Craig) and his nephews C.J. and Chad; his mother and father-in-law, Ronald and Cecile Chung; his sister-in-law, Paula Mitchell (Ben) and their son, Nathan; his sister-in-law Sandra Musallam (Waleed Musallam) and their children, Lena and Michael; plus his extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins.Dave was preceded in death by his mother Marylyn.
Services were held at Eternal Valley in Newhall, on May 13, where the chapel was overflowing with family and friends from the mountain, the San Fernando Valley, Simi Valley and with Dave’s co-workers from the post office, as well as family from out of state.
