IN THE CARE OF
Alexander Funeral Home-Newburgh Chapel
Robert L. Maurer, 66, of Newburgh passed away Monday August 26, 2013, at St. Mary’s Medical Center. He was born in Evansville, Indiana, to Joseph C. Maurer and Shirley E. Harned.
Robert graduated from Boonville High School and attended Layne Tech before being drafted into the United States Army on May 4, 1966. He earned the nickname “Spanky” by becoming the leader of the motor pool where he was stationed in South Korea as a mechanic and retriever operator. He was honorably discharged on May 2, 1969. After discharge from the Army, he worked at Bucyrus Erie and later Continental Emsco until 1982. He was an excellent welder and fabricator and could tweak any design to fit the task. He was an avid fisherman and classic car guru. He never met a stranger and could talk to anybody about anything (especially fishing). He loved to teach (especially fishing) and spend time with his grandchildren. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather that will be missed dearly by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Fran (née Wire) of Newburgh, Indiana; sons Robert A. Maurer of Boonville, IN, Timothy (Dawn) Maurer of St. Louis, MO.; daughter Jennifer R. Wilhelm (Ryan Schiff) of Chandler, IN; brothers Mark (Karen) Maurer of Chandler, IN, Dewayne Donner, Joseph (Janet) C. Maurer II, and Brent (Cindi) Maurer; sisters Debbra Maurer; Beverly (Mike) Nix, and Shirley (Jack) Maurer-Byrd all of Boonville, IN; grandchildren Courtney Wilhelm, Braiden Wilhelm, and Lindsey Maurer.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 6:00 PM, Friday, August 30, 2013, at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, officiated by Celebrant, Carrie Hatchett. Friends may visit 5 PM until service time at the funeral home.
