Robert "Bob" A. Jackson, Sr.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert "Bob" A. Jackson, Sr., 81, who departed this world on November 24, 2023, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, IN. Bob was born in Evansville, IN, to the late William H. Jackson and Dorothy Mae (Bratcher) Jackson, He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and pillar of the community. Raised in Evansville, Bob graduated from Central High School in 1960 and attended the University of Evansville. He began his career as a jockey, a horse trainer, then owned his own construction company before beginning his career as the Director of Operations for Ellis Park (Churchill Downs), where he dedicated many years to ensuring the success of this iconic establishment. His hard work and dedication left an indelible mark on the hearts of all those who had the pleasure of working with him. Bob was a Kentucky Colonel for over 34 years, he served on the boards for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Evansville and Leadership Evansville and was also a graduate of Leadership Evansville. In 1963, Bob entered into a lifetime of love and companionship when he married Linda "Irene" Jackson. Together, they built a life filled with joy, shared dreams, and enduring commitment. Their union blessed them with two children, Elizabeth (Steve) Jackson, and Robert (Julie) Jackson Jr., both of whom carry on the legacy of their remarkable father; grandchildren, Jacob, Ashley, and Marissa Jackson; brother, Michael E. (Bonnie) Jackson; nephews, Mike Jackson, Dr. Steed Jackson, Billy James, and Aaron Slatton; and many extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Pat Slatton, Betty James, and Gloria (Dodie) Jackson. Bob Jackson will be remembered not only for his professional accomplishments but also for the warmth and kindness he extended to all who knew him. His legacy lives on in the hearts of his family and friends, a testament to a life well-lived and a man deeply loved. May he rest in eternal peace. A visitation at Alexander Newburgh Chapel for family and friends to honor Bob's memory will take place on Thursday, November 30, 2023, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and again the following day on Friday, December 1, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM, providing an opportunity for family and friends to come together to celebrate the life of this extraordinary individual. The final resting place for Bob will be at Park Lawn Cemetery in Evansville, IN.
