Obituary of Robert Griffin Hester, Jr.
Robert Griffin Hester Jr. passed away on March 8th, 2023. He was born in Owensboro, Kentucky on May 28, 1964 to parents Mary and Robert Hester, Sr. He was a 1982 graduate of Owensboro Catholic High School. He was a veteran of the US Army where he earned several awards and high recommendations from his superior officers. Those years were some of the best of his life and during that time he began long distance running. He recalled many nights spent in solitude jogging for miles across the windswept hills of the base in Fort Riley, Kansas. After leaving the Army, he attended Murray State University where he was involved in many clubs and activities. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Business and later an MBA and was proud to be a ‘Racer’ alum. He loved being outdoors and spent many hours mountain biking, hiking, and camping across Colorado and other western states. He especially enjoyed the wildlife in nature, always watching for birds and other animals. He had a strong appreciation of astronomy and was never more at peace than staring at the constellations (many of which he could identify) under a clear night sky. He adored music and taught himself how to play guitar and piano. He also enjoyed working on home improvement projects, one of which was building a music studio where he could record original music he created. Above all, he was a doting grandpa “Griffy” to Holland and Charlie and a loving father and devoted husband. He treasured spending time with his family and close friends and helping them with anything they asked of him whether it was a project, running an errand, or advice. He often expressed that his time with his loved ones was his favorite activity of all. He is survived by his wife of 11 years, Carol (Eisenhauer) Hester; daughter, Emily (Peyton) Ashby, and grandchildren, Holland and Charlie, of Henderson, KY; step-children, Lydia (Tristan Jones) Kauppinen of Land O’Lakes, FL , Kristina (Dan Murray) Kauppinen, of Centennial, CO and Soph Aetheria, of San Jose, CA. Also, his father, Robert Hester, Sr.; brother, Larry (Lynetta) Hester; sisters, Cathy Malone, and Karla (Junior) Hunt, all of Owenboro, KY, as well as nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother Mary (Clark) Hester and brother-in-law Kenny Malone. Condolences may be made online at www.AlexanderNewburghChapel.com.
