Later, he accepted an offer to join American State Bank in Lawrenceburg, IN, spending six cherished years in the Lawrenceburg area. Due to health concerns, he and Dorothy returned to their home in Newburgh to be closer to their family.
Even in retirement, he remained active, becoming involved in the Warrick County Republican party and serving two terms as Warrick County Auditor.
Throughout his life, Richard was active in many civic organizations, holding leadership positions at the American Legion, Vincennes University Alumni, Junior Chamber of Commerce, serving on the Lawrenceville-Vincennes Airport Authority, Vincennes City Council, Vincennes Kiwanis and the Newburgh Kiwanis, where he took pride in serving on the Swimming Pool Committee, which helped build the Newburgh Community Swimming Pool (now the Lou Dennis Community Park).
