Mary “Susie” Tanner, 81, of Newburgh, Indiana, passed away on Friday, July 1, 2022, at Bell Oaks Place. She was born November 27, 1940 in Trigg County, Kentucky, to the late Leon and Lorene (Thomas) Bruce.
Susie retired from Vectren in 2000 after 20 years of service. She was a member of Newburgh United Methodists Church, was an avid reader and devoted to her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Dale Pope; and husband of 44 years, John Tanner; grandson, Tanner Peckenpaugh; and brother, Owen Bruce.
Susie is survived by her daughter, Kathy (Pope) Hayden (Joe); son, Rob Pope (Dena); daughter, Connie (Pope) Peckenpaugh; son, Barry Tanner (Kim); grandchildren, Kelsey Hayden, Lydia (Hayden) Hamilton, Joseph Hayden Jr., Robby Pope (Joni), Valerie Pope (Caleb Wiederhold), Marissa Peckenpaugh, Katie and Nathan Tanner; brother, Leon "Junior" Bruce; sister, Linda Ann Bruce; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 9, 2022, at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
