Joan S. Hinton Martin, 86, of Newburgh, passed away on Friday, October 28, 2022. She was born March 10, 1936 in Evansville to the late Henry and Josephine (Angermeier) Steckler. She was one of seventeen children.
She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church where she volunteered as a Garden Angel. Joan helped establish and run Mother Teresa Treasures for a number of years. Joan and Jack received the Brute Award for outstanding volunteerism. She worked at Sears and retired after many years. Joan enjoyed making homemade meals for her family and was an excellent seamstress.
Joan was preceded in death by husbands, Donald R. Hinton and John (Jack) C. Martin.
She is survived by her daughter, Stephanie Hinton-Kaho of Newburgh; sons, David (Jessica) Hinton of Evansville, and Dan (Dana) Hinton of Chandler; grandchildren, Brianna (Beau) Crawford, Todd (Jessica) Kaho, Jackson, Jacob, Jillian, Josie Kate, and Henry “Hank” Hinton; great grandson, Cash Crawford; siblings, Joseph (Arliene) Steckler, Patricia Jackson, Harold (Laurie) Steckler, Donald (Betty) Steckler, and Kathy Ising; numerous nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, November 3, 2022 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 625 Frame Rd, Newburgh, IN, officiated by Fr. Dusty Burns, with a bereavement luncheon to follow. Family and friends may visit 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, 5333 State Road 261. A private burial will be held at St. John Catholic Cemetery.
