Irene Marie Marcoccia

Irene Marie (Sano) Marcoccia went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 23, 2018, one month before her 91st birthday. She lived happily with her cat Arizona in her apartment in Atria in Newburgh. She was born in New York City on April 20, 1927 to Anthony and Marie (Cassetta) Sano and was raised and attended schools in Elmira, NY. She attended college at Mercyhurst College in Erie, PA.

She is survived by daughters, Debra Poelhuis and husband William Leth of Fleetwood, PA, Karen Simpson and husband Michael of Columbus, IN, Annette Seybold and husband Tom of Evansville, IN; son, Paul and wife Linda of Evansville; and sister-in-law, Delores Sano of Millport, New York. She was loved by her six grandchildren, Abbie Holdorf (Brian) and Andy Poelhuis; Darice, Derek (Allie) and Diedra Marcoccia, and Garrett Seybold. She was blessed with 3 great-grandchildren, Kate Marcoccia and Noah and Elizabeth Holdorf.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Frank Marcoccia in 2011; daughter, Katheryn Marcoccia in 1954; and siblings, Nancy Araujo, Vincent and Francis Sano.

A private service for the family was held. Her remains will be interred in Bourne National VA Cemetery, Bourne, MA next to her husband who was an Army veteran of the Korean War.

The family wishes to thank all the staff at Atria in Newburgh for loving her for the past 7 years, they were her second family, and the Deaconess Hospital VNA Hospice nurses and aids for taking such good care of her during her last days.
