Obituary of Carol Jean Weir
Carol Jean Weir, 93, of Newburgh, passed away Wednesday March 8, 2023. She was born on July 10, 1929 in Princeton, to the late Roscoe Woods and Nola (Arburn) Woods. She graduated from Evansville College in 1951 with a BS in Medical Technology, Indiana State University in 1984 with a Masters in Library Science and the University of Southern Indiana in 1993 with a Distinguished Service Award from School of Nursing and Health Professions. Jean was a Medical Technician from 1951 to 1957 for the Daviess County Hospital in Washington, and at Welborn Hospital facilities in Poseyville and Evansville. In 1961 she worked in Public Relations and Recruitment at Oakland City College and then became Assistant Librarian through 1966. From 1966 to 1969 she became Research Assistant to Dr. Leland McClung at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. In 1969 she returned to work at Oakland City College until 1977. She then started at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville as a librarian and became Director in 1986 and Archivist in 1990. She retired at the end of 1992 but went back to help again until 1995. She then became a volunteer and went on to set up the Medical Library at Chancelor Center for Oncology at Deaconess Campus East. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Edward Weir. They were happily married for 60 years. Jean is survived by her children, Gay Marie Weir of Boonville, Tony Weir (Heather) of Edmond, OK; grandchildren, Whitney Cloin (Drake), Jessica Powers (Mitch), Andrew Weir all of Indianapolis and Aaron Weir and Ashlynn Weir of Edmond, OK; great grandchild, Mako Cloin; sister, Frederica Davison of Charlotte, NC; nephew, Russel Weir (Yvonne) of Harpers Ferry,WV; and nieces, Carole Leigh Brown of Cleveland, OH and Lynn Ann Tilley of Charlotte, NC. A funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 13, 2023 at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, 5333 State Road 261, with burial in Columbia White Church Cemetery, Princeton, IN.
