Robert “Bob” Michael Ginsberg, age 87, of the Upper West Side of Manhattan, New York, passed away with family in Austin, Texas on July 6th, 2022 from natural causes. Bob was surrounded by family at his death.
Bob was born in the Bronx, New York to David and Paula (Daniels) Ginsberg on June 25, 1935. He graduated from The Bronx High School of Science and received his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan. Bob earned his Juris Doctorate from Yale Law School and was admitted to the New York bar in 1961, fulfilling a childhood ambition to become an attorney.
Bob was a practicing plaintiff’s personal injury litigator for over 50 years, becoming a partner at Fuchsberg & Fuchsberg and later starting his own practice in 1984 with partner Alvin Broome. Ginsberg & Broome thrived for over 30 years. Bob later started Ginsberg & Wolf with partner Martin Wolf. Bob was a well-respected New York City trial attorney, handling cases that resulted in meaningful verdicts and settlements for his clients. He was recognized by the National Trial Lawyers Association as one of New York’s Best 100 Trial Lawyers and lectured at the Practicing Law Institute and the New York Trial Lawyers Association.
Bob was active in New York politics, serving as a Democratic district leader in New York City from 1969 to 1971. Bob was elected to serve as a Democratic State Committeeman in 1974 and continued in that position for 29 years. Bob also owned The Balcony restaurant on the Upper West Side for fifteen years where he met his second wife, Juilliard trained violinist Annette Hult.
Bob married Judy Haworth in 1969 and they had a son, Simon (Clare) Ginsberg. Bob married the love of his life, Annette, in 1982 and they had two children, Elizabeth (Nick) and David. In addition to his children, Bob is survived by his adored grandchildren Simone (14), Clark (13) and Lochlan (2) and his niece and nephews Patti, Michael and Eric. Bob is predeceased by his wife Annette and sister Judie Mosbrooker.
Bob spent his summers with his family at Davis Park, Fire Island at his oceanfront home. The beach was Bob’s favorite place and he never missed an opportunity for ocean swims or long conversations with other residents and visitors. Bob loved celebrating the end of each day watching the sunset from the rooftop with a gin martini in hand and his family by his side.
Bob had an endless joy for life and a constant smile, never allowing for a dull moment or missing an opportunity for a witty joke. He was constantly active, competing in basketball in his youth, organizing and playing beach volleyball on Fire Island, and playing soccer until he was 80. He managed and coached for his son David’s soccer teams, and enforced family sports every morning. He loved beach getaways and vacationed with his family every year at various Caribbean Club Med destinations.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 31st at the Riverside Memorial Chapel located at 180 West 76th St, New York, NY 10023 with a reception to follow.
