I send condolences. Nancy brought passion and precision to her work on literature and paper. Inspiring and illuminating, by turns, with her keen sense of humor, she inspired me and many friends who, I hope, will discover, as I did, how generously she shared her knowledge and how she connected us.

Nancy and I both came to Princeton East Asian Studies as graduate students in 1977.  She was an exceptionally kind and generous person whose presence helped me feel comfortable at Princeton.  I have always been grateful to be her friend, and I am very sad to know that she has left this world.

Nancy was one of the most beautiful people I have ever known. Inside and out. She was generous, insightful and full of intellectual enthusiasm for anything Chinese -- and everything else she discovered. Her sense of service to the field resulted in the survival of such valuable publications as the East Asia Library Journal. Her knowledge of material culture and literature made for true revelations about Chinese book culture. Such a wonderful lady -- we shall all miss her, and honor the privilege of knowing her.

I am forever grateful for Nancy's guidance and introductions in the paper world when we traveled in China together in 2003.  Condolences to her family; she will be sorely missed.
