He lived in Manhattan and was the life partner of Joanne Scheidt, the father of Leslie Rubin (Peter Silverberg) and Audrey Rubin, the stepfather of Emily Bachmann (Tom Bachmann) and David Pereira, and the grandfather of Simone, Mimi, Jonah, Mara, Lanie, and Talia. Mark was born and raised in Brooklyn and graduated from James Madison High School. He served in the United States Army Corps of Engineers, and went on to a successful career in sales.
He had an encyclopedic knowledge of classical music and opera, and his main joy was singing choral music, first with the Collegiate Chorale and in recent years with the Canterbury Choral Society. He is beloved and mourned by many friends who sang with him over the years.
Mark was devoted to his family and would sing the praises of his children and grandchildren to anyone who would listen. He was known by all for his quirky sense of humor, never once reviewing a restaurant check without loudly declaring, “Who ordered the tax?” He also enjoyed regaling his friends and family with stories of growing up in Brooklyn in the 1940’s and 50’s and could quote dialogue from Abbott and Costello movies by heart.
He was predeceased by his wife Susan Pereira, with whom he travelled far and wide. He took full advantage of New York City culture, attending concerts, visiting museums, and dining out at favorite restaurants. He and Joanne also loved spending time at their vacation house in Putnam Valley, New York, where he often went fishing off his boat or took in a round of golf.
