“Larry”
November 13, 1935 - June 8, 2011
Lawrence was born in Norfolk, Va. to William R. and Doris (nee Odum) Madison. He died at Beth Israel Medical Center, after a brief illness.
He was raised in Far Rockaway, Queens, NY and graduated from Far Rockaway High School, class of 1952, Valedictorian. He attended New York University and served in the U.S. Army National Guard
He was a long-term Resident of Stuyvesant Town, NYC. Lawrence enjoyed an extensive career in the Men’s Clothing Business, at Saks Fifth Avenue and Burberry. He was a lover of Jazz from a young age. It gave him great pleasure to talk about his and his brother’s attendance at the first Newport Jazz Festival in 1954. He had an extensive collection of recordings of his favorite artists and enjoyed live performances in concert halls and Jazz clubs. He was a great sports spectator, an avid Yankee fan. He followed all of the golf tournaments, tennis championships, and enjoyed the NBA games. He was up on current events, reading several newspapers a day. He loved travel and could amaze people with his knowledge, in particular, of US states and little known cities. He was young and vital and loved life.
Lawrence was Handsome, Elegant, Charming and Gracious, a consummate Gentleman. A loving, embracing, soul. My love.
Lawrence is survived by his long-term love and life partner, Beatrice (Bea) Maloney and many friends and family members. He is pre-deceased by his parents and his twin brother William R. Madison, Jr.
