Mr. David C. Loring

September 16, 2021, following a brief battle with cancer.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 32 years, Anne, as

well as siblings, Jon and Linda, and nephews Nathan and

Carlos, niece Kristen, and extended family in California.

David received his B.A. in Economics from Pomona

College in 1964. Following graduation from Stanford Law

School in 1967, he pursued a variety of activities in law,

focusing exclusively in the international arena. He spent

two years in Costa Rica as Visiting Professor of

Commercial Law at the University of Costa Rica. In

connection with his work there, he wrote “The United

States-Peruvian ‘Fisheries’ Dispute, published in the

Stanford Law Review in 1971. Upon his return to

California, he clerked for two years for California

Supreme Court Chief Justice Donald R. Wright. The

following 20 years were spent in the corporate sector,

working at General Motors in New York as International

Counsel for Latin America and later joining The Atlantic

in Los Angeles as Counsel for Europe and the Middle East.

After his years with ARCO, David returned to New York,

focusing on entrepreneurial ventures in oil and gas and

developing a technology for the conversion of natural gas

to high quality liquids (GTL). Along the way, he produced

two television pilots.

David loved to travel and there were few places he had

not been to. His passport stamps filled many many pages.

He thrived on experiencing different cultures and

appreciated them all. He also had a green thumb and

enjoyed gardening since he was a child when at age 10

his parents put him in charge of their garden in Pasadena.

His terrace in NY reflected his passion for flowers and

trees. His favorite sport was tennis and he particularly

enjoyed beating his fiercest opponent, his wife, Anne.

David loved to take on challenges and he confronted

them all with courage rather than fear. He is best

remembered for his enthusiasm and love of life and the

people around him, especially his family, his unlimited

optimism and creativity, and his fearless determination

to carry on in the face of challenges. In lieu of flowers,
