Alvin Samuel Goodman passed away on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at the age of 99. Beloved husband of 66 years to Nettie. Loving father of Sandra, Lynn (Joe), Nancy (Ron), and Sally (Denice). Adoring grandfather of Violet.
Alvin earned his BS in Civil Engineering from CUNY and his PhD in Civil Engineering from NYU. He worked at Tippets-Abbett-McCarthy-Stratton as a consultant for many years, and concurrently taught at Columbia University, CUNY, Northeastern University, NYU and Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute. He was the co-author of the standard textbook, "Infrastructure Planning Handbook: Planning, Engineering, and Economics," with Makarand Hastak. At his retirement, he was the Head of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Polytechnic (now part of NYU). After he retired from teaching, he was Chief Engineer of the Borough of Brooklyn, finally fully retiring at age 94.
Services will be held Sunday, July 28, at 1pm at Riverside Memorial Chapel, 180 W 76th St and Amsterdam Avenue.
