Dr. Goodgold was brilliant, amiable in the extreme, funny and surprising; never have I seen a doctor who spent his time translating Italian poetry. He understood my fears, was patient with me, and always gave me excellent counsel. I have to admit that  I was shaken when he retired but subsequently was glad that he could relax after such a distinguished career. I loved him, a consummate mensch. He even laughed at my jokes. And I miss him.

Dr. Goodgold was the most down to earth doctor. Our 19 year old daughter was diagnosed with MS. My husband and I were in shock. He spent at least 2 hours with him, as he educated us on the disease and it's manifestations. We left his office feeling that our daughter was in good hands. 25 years later, she's doing well and is having a productive life. Thank you for being there for us, we'll never forget you. Condolences to the family.


I only just discovered that Dr. Goodgold passed away. I saw him for years, and found him to be not only a great doctor but also a brilliant, funny man with a great sense of irony. He was always patient with me, my endless questions, my fears. I will always miss him.

I did my residency at NYU from 72-75. Al was undoubtedly my most  impactful attending. In many ways I have modeled my career in Chicago after what he taught me . I truly loved him. He was a remarkable doctor and was revered by his patients and colleagues. I am sorry I just learned  about his passing . My sympathies are sent to his family.

Al was my godfather. My dad and he attended medical school together in Bern, Switzerland.  My dad and mom thought the world of him and Ruth. He was brilliant and had the common touch.  As a physician my dad thought he had no equal.  And my dad's word was gold.
     There is a story that my father told me about Al when they were in Switzerland.  It was September of 1951.  The Dodgers were playing the Giants in the deciding game of their playoff to get into the World Series.  Al and his two roommates were listening to the game over Armed Forces Radio.  Reception was so poor they had to listen with stethoscopes pressed against the radio. Bobby Thompson hits the shot heard around the world to win the game for the Giants. Al was a Dodger fan and his two roommates were Giant fans. His roommates go crazy jumping up and down screaming yelling.  However their Swiss landlord was not very understanding and she evicted them. I'm told Al had to spend a night at my mom and dad's apartment sleeping in the bathtub.  At my mom's surprise 80th birthday party, Al tells me that the story wasn't exactly true.  But I still love telling the story.  
     The medical world as well as the world at large is much the worse for his loss.  My condolences to his family.

I knew Dr.Goodgold indirectly through my lifelong friendship with his Henry.  Though I did not have many encounters with him,  I always thought of him as a mensch.  He worked into his nineties and Henry would always remind me of that incredible fact.  My sincerest condolances to his family.

I was a patient of al GOODGOLD for 20 years. The smartest and most down to earth doctor I ever meet. We will remember him forever. Thanks for your being the greatest 

Dr  Albert Goodgold was one of the most compassionate and  intelligent Neurologists I have ever met some 30 years ago.   His knowledge and his passion for what he believed in, along with his witty sense of humor,  always made his patients feel at ease.
